How I Launched the Authentic Life Podcast

For the past couple of years, I have been an avid podcast listener. Now, especially during quarantine, podcasts have been ingrained into my routine. Whether it’s a long drive or a jog around my neighborhood, the voices of my favorite podcast-ers have kept me company. For this project, I got to create my very own podcast and learn what it takes to become a podcast-er.

What did I do?

I created a podcast using Adobe Audition. To begin this process, I brainstormed ideas for my podcast. I settled on a podcast episode focusing on the Enneagram including one of my classmates, Emma Kerr, as my guest. In addition to this, I chose a name for my podcast and created a graphic. I chose the podcast name “Authentic Life” because living life authentically is one of my core values and something I want to teach others about. I took the picture for my graphic (see graphic below) on one of my long walks around my neighborhood where I always get to listen to podcasts. I recorded the podcast with Emma Kerr over zoom and then edited the podcast on adobe audition. Finally, I exported the podcast and uploaded it to soundcloud.

What did I learn?

Throughout this process, I learned how to…

  • Use Adobe Audition
  • Use the Auto Heal tool (see image below)
  • Use the Cut tool
  • Record directly on Adobe Audition
  • Use the Mastering tool
  • Use the Noise Reduction tool
  • Fade audio in and out
  • Use the Amplify tool
  • Use the DeEsser tool

How will I use what I have learned?

I have been listening to podcasts for the past couple of years and it is so exciting to finally know what it takes to create one! I aspire to have my own professional podcast and the skills I have learned while doing this project will be helpful in that endeavor. I am also a frequent podcast listener—That Sounds Fun and The Real Life Podcast are my favorites—and I will use what I have learned to be a more informed podcast listener.
