Lately, I’ve been thinking about the idea of passion. It’s remarkably beautiful when someone is passionate about the right something or someone. And if someone were to ask you, “what’s your passion?” You could sit there all day telling them about what makes your heart race, and what gets you out of bed in the morning, and what makes you truly joyful. And I believe everybody has some sort of passion. Even if they don’t know it yet, or if they don’t see it in them, it’s there, and it changes everything when you find it. And when you find your true passion, your direction of life changes, because you’ve found something to live for; something to thrive off of.
Passion is like fire within us. It starts off as just a spark; the first drop of a whole ocean of direction. Then when we realize that one drop is only the beginning, and we crave more. We crave more of our God. We long to know more about who He is. Soon that drop becomes an ocean, and that spark becomes a flame. That’s the kind of passion that makes our hearts race, and makes us get out of bed in the morning, and makes us truly joyful. That’s the kind of passion that can consume us. That’s the kind of passion that changes everything.
Now we start to live life not according to selfishness, but according to His calling. We learn what it is to be alive, and what it is to follow Him and go where He leads us. The fire in our hearts begins to shine through our actions, and we start this process of living a life worthy of His calling.
Even when we begin to struggle, and that fire in our hearts grows dim, God’s passion for us is still roaring. Through the struggle, he makes us stronger, and after the fact, our passion is stronger than ever before because we struggled through it. God is there with us the midst of every struggle, and every tear, and every late night. When we’re lost, God guides us. And when our passion burns out, His passion keeps on burning.
So now our passion is roaring with hope and love and Jesus Christ. We’re struggling, loving, hoping, and smiling all at once. One moment we’re trying to make it through the day and the next we’re determined to change the world because He changed ours. Even in the midst of the chaos, he brought art. Even in the darkest of times, He was light. And you know what? All of it matters. Every single emotion; pain, struggle, hope, love, loss, sorrow, and joy. Because at the end of the day, regardless of what emotion we may be feeling, God is working all things together for our good even if we might see it yet.
Whether your passion seems to be dimming or growing stronger, remember that even if your passion for God dies, His passion for you will never die.
